Multifunction printers are also known as all-in-ones, and combine printer, scanner and copier. Some models also integrate a fax machine too. Having all this functionality in one machine not only saves space, but saves on buying each device individually. Here are a few tips to guide you if you fancy buying one of these useful printers.

Inkjet or Laser?:
Inkjet printers are designed with home and small office users in mind: With the initial cost and replacement ink cartridges being cheaper than a laser and toner - but with inkjet you receive much lower page yields per cartridge. Laser printers are good for medium to large business that print often, with more expensive toner cartridges that have much higher page yields than inkjet printer inks.

Print Speeds:
Print speeds are measured in pages per minute (ppm), and are usually displayed in the manufacturers specifications. Remember that these values are usually for draft-quality mode, so the printers speed will be a little slower when printing normal documents or photos. If you print often, a large paper capacity is a bonus - some printers can also be equipped with additional paper trays.

The Scanner:
All decent all-in-one printers come with a good quality scanner. Its important to get the highest-resolution you can if you plan on scanning photos at all. Ease of use is also a factor when deciding what to buy, especially for a busy office, does the printer have a one-touch button for copying?

Connecting Your Printer:
Most multifunction printers will have at least a USB connection, which is fine if you only have a single PC to connect it to. If you want the whole office to be able to print documents on your machine, either Ethernet or Wi-fi connectivity will be essential for you to share the printer across your network.
